Baking, Babies and DIY: My kind of weekend

For better or for worse, I am a high capacity individual. It's a compulsion, really. Projects, cooking, cleaning, shopping, Pinteresting, yoga-ing. My husband, who would much prefer to relax and watch a movie together, is driven mad by this level of type A-ness. cannot be helped. And don't worry, he's not really suffering. On the menu this weekend so far:

Pizza with homemade smoky cheddar, bacon bits and onion. Tom Kha with chikn and breakfast tacos with chorizo scramble. And of course there was baking as well:

Blueberry Lemon Muffins and Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins, both from Colleen Patrick Goudreau's The Joy of Vegan Baking. This is one of the first cookbooks I got when I went vegan, and I continue to use it often 10 years later. Check it out!

Since I have three kids and my life is insane, mishaps are a relatively common occurrence. Note to self: Using towels for hot pads is not their intended purpose. Never ever a dull moment.

I've also recently started making my own beauty and cleaning products. I started simple with reusable dryer sheets and yoga mat disinfectant spray. This weekend I really got busy:

From blue lid, clockwise, orange-sugar body scrub, laundry detergent cubes, lavender body wash, dishwasher pods, and cucumber melon gentle face scrub (I used cucumber melon essential oil instead of frankincense.) These were all vegan, SO EASY and cheap to make, and will generate so much less waste going forward.

Here's a handy infographic for making your own sugar scrubs (use a vegan alternative for the recipe with honey). For mine, I started with the top recipe and customized it to what I wanted/had on hand. Regular sugar, vanilla, orange essential oil, and coconut oil. It smells like heaven.

I hope that everyone is having a great weekend, and if you aren't, maybe these faces will make you smile like they always do for me.
